Minister of technology Wang Gang presents US secretary of energy Steven Chu with two Flying Pigeon electric bikes. | Two Flying Pigeon electric bikes were presented to US president Obama and US secretary of energy Steven Chu as gifts by minister of technology Wang Gang when they visited China from Oct 15 to 18.
"The bike for Obama was tailor-made for him one month ago," a manager surnamed Liu with the Tianjin-based Flying Pigeon Electric Bicycle Manufacturing Co said.
One electric bike normally weighs 50 kg to 60 kg but the one the US president got is powered by a lithium battery and only weighs 24 kg.
The Flying Pigeon is one of the best known bike brands in China. Two Flying Pigeons were also given to former US president George H. W. Bush and his wife Barbara by former premier Li Peng when they visited China in 1989.
