Chinese tennis aces did not fell prey to any upset at the 11th Chinese National Games, with former Olympic champion Sun Tiantian and China's former male number one Sun Peng both advancing in the doubles events on Tuesday.

After teaming up with Yang Yifan to beat a pair from Hong Kong, China for the second round in the mixed doubles, Sun Tiantian, 28, said she will not retire after the elite national meet.

"The career for a tennis player is short. If I feel the training, competition and travel are far beyond my ability, I will have no choice but to retire, but not today," the Athens Olympic women's doubles gold medalist said after the match.

She told Xinhua if the country needs her, she would compete in the Asian Games next year. "For myself, of course I hope to participate."

Sun Peng, defending champion of the singles event, opened the men's doubles event with a victory with teammate Liang Shuangqiang by defeating Henan pair Li Yang and Fenghe 2-0.

Sun, representing Tianjin, said this competition was more difficult than the last fight four years ago because a lot of young players are growing stronger.
