Residents of Tianjin have donated more than 140,000 yuan ($20,508) for the treatment of a university student from the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

Ayinuer Humatai, a student at the Nankai University in Tianjin, said her parents were too poor to afford the cost of her treatment.

The student's university launched a drive to collect money for her.
