Chinese cyclists Zhang Lei and Li Xuemei rewrote Asian records in both men's and women's individual sprint Sunday at the 11th Chinese National Games.
Li first set a new Asian record with 11.001 seconds, 0.001 second better than the Asian record held by Guo Shuang, another young Chinese cyclist who is also the bronze medalist of this event at the Beijing Olympics.
Li, 21, also set a new Asian record in the women's 500m time trial Saturday, lowering the world record by only 0.6 seconds.
Cyclist Zhang Lei from Shandong province clocked 10.051 seconds to renew his Asian record of 10.116 seconds in men's individual sprint afterwards.
Zhang also inspired the host team to win the gold medal of men's team sprint Saturday with 44.232, only 0.1 second behind the Asian best result of 44.1 made by Japanese team at the Athens Olympic Games.
The 28-year-old Zhang still maitain good form. He said that he would try to be at 2012 London Olympic Games, though he would be 33-year-old then.
In the final of the men's 4km individual pursuit Sunday afternoon, cyclist Li Wei from Tianjin team defended his title as the Asian record holder this event.
Li crossed the line in 4.30.385 minutes, while his Asian record is 4.28.874 minutes set in the 2009 Chinese national track cycling championships.
