7-Eleven, the largest international convenience store chain has registered with the Tianjin Administration for Industry and Commerce to open four chain stores in Heping district, Tianjin.
Two chain stores at Rongye Street (or Glorious Business Street) and Binjiang Avenue will be open to the public in the middle of September.
7-Eleven plans to open 50 stores in Tianjin in total.
7-Eleven provides round-the-clock services, with kinds of food and drinks, including bread, local snacks, deserts, and main food. Other services include ticket booking, stamp sales, and fashion magazines.
7-Eleven was founded in 1927 when a Southland Ice Company employee started selling convenience items outside the company, at an improvised storefront. The name 7-Eleven has been in use since 1946. In 1991, a subsidy of the Japanese Supermarket chain Ito-Yokado (now 7-Eleven Japan) purchased a majority interest in the Southland Corporation, and eventually changed its name to 7-Eleven, Inc in 1999. As of now, 7-Eleven has opened more than 32,000 chain stores around the world, in eighteen countries, with its largest markets being Japan, the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand.
The first 7-Eleven entered mainland market in 2004 and there are over 80 7-Eleven chain stores now in Beijing.
