Musical drama wows audiences in Tai'an

A musical drama based on a traditional Chinese fairy tale of hero Shi Gandang was staged in Tai'an city, Shandong province, on Thursday.

The drama, adapted from the love story of Shi Gandang, who sacrificed him and his lover while combating an evil spirit, is the first home-made musical drama of Tai'an city.

All props and wardrobe were specially designed for each of the characters. The musical drama took several months to cast and has more than 40 young actors.

It used sound, light, electricity and other modern stage technology to integrate elements of dance, opera, drama, acrobatics, jujitsu and martial arts, attracting more than 1,000 people to watch.

Nowadays, the name Shi Gandang is often carved on a stone tablet that is used to exorcise evil spirits in East China.
