BEIJING -- China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) on May 13 published 10 typical civil cases that helped promote core socialist values.

Core socialist values comprise a set of moral principles summarized by central authorities as prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, the rule of law, patriotism, dedication, integrity and friendship.

The cases had drawn wide attention and ended up protecting the reputation and honor of heroes and martyrs, encouraging people's righteous and courageous acts or upholding the fine traditions, said Zheng Xuelin, an official with the SPC.

Two of them were public interest litigation cases involving infringement of the reputations of two war heroes and a firefighter who died battling a blaze. The defendants of the cases were ordered to make apologies for their behaviors.

The SPP said relevant judgements on the cases will help build a society that admires, respects and protects heroes and martyrs.

In another case, the court decided that the defendant should bear no liability for the sudden death of a citizen, who fell on the ground after hitting a boy with a bike and being stopped by the defendant when trying to leave the incident site.

The courts will continue to promote core socialist values by making impartial judgements, said Zheng.
