Alumni wins honor for Shanxi University

Xie Jianwei, one of Shanxi University’s most prestigious alumni, earned first prize at the State Science and Technology Progress Awards hosted by the National Science and Technology Awards Conference held at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on Jan 5.

Xie received his graduate and post-graduate education from Shanxi University’s College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering between 1981 and 1988, and has been working as a researcher at the State Key Lab of the Pharmacology & Toxicology Institute of Military Medical Sciences Academy (AMMS) since 1997. The research sectors he focuses on include toxicology, mass spectrum analysis and pharmacology. He has had over 170 academic reports published in leading national and international journals, 100 of which are SCI periodicals.

Throughout the years, he has held a number of positions such as managing director, expert consultant, doctoral supervisor, committee member and council member for many academic institutions and societies, including China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA), Xiamen University, Chinese Society of Toxicology, and the Chinese Mass Spectrometry Society.

The State Science and Technology Progress Awards are organized by the State Council to honor individuals and organizations who have made prominent contributions to technological innovation and industrialization projects crucial to social progress, State security, and social well-being. The grand prize for this award is 1 million yuan ($144,405), and the first prize is 200,000 yuan. [Photo provided to China Daily]
