The government of Pingyao, Chinese City Sculptor Association and the Mobius Art Foundation in Austria have been developing a professional and diverse cultural platform for China and countries around the world –– by hosting an international sculpture festival in the ancient city from July 20 to Aug 20.

Holding an international sculpture event at a World Heritage Site and showcasing modern art and literary creation demonstrates how Pingyao has opened itself up to the outside world, said Wu Weishan, chairman of Chinese City Sculptor Association.

Through these unique and fascinating sculptures, I hope ideas about new creative processes can be shared among artists from all around the world, added Wu.

In the international art dialogue unit, 16 artists from Europe have been invited to showcase their creations and some of them worked with locals and students in Pingyao for nearly a month to create sculptures together.

In addition, some 20 Chinese artists have been invited to display their artwork, demonstrating the openness and diversity of thought in the contemporary Chinese art scene.
