The first Sculpture Projects Ping Yao (SPPY) is expected to be held in Pingyao on July 20, attracting more than 40 renowned artists from around the world.

The event will include a special area to promote international dialogue, and foreign artists such as Joseph Beuys and Yona Friedman will be exhibiting their works, as well as Chinese artists such as Xiang Yang, said Zhong Sufei, producer of the first SPPY.

Joseph Beuys was a German performance artist as well as a sculptor, installation artist and graphic artist. And he is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the second half of the 20th century. One of his works will be exhibited at the SPPY.

OUT IN THE OPEN created by Raquel Lejtreger, an artist from Uruguay, will also be exhibited. The special part of her work lies in its serious discussion of humanism including climate change, natural disasters and regional conflicts.

Swiss artist Raphael Hefti combines an innate understanding of materials and technical knowledge in his work with his interest for the aesthetic of error and the unexpected. This time he is going to create a new piece tailored exclusively to Pingyao.

Xiang Yang and his work –– The Shore Where We Can Reach, a combination of Chinese and Western culture, are appearing at the exhibition on July 20.

The first SPPY is being held jointly by the People’s Government of Pingyao County and Mobius Art Foundation, and is set to last for one month.
