Roger Federer crashes out at Shanghai Masters

Fifth seeded Roger Federer who is actually pulling double duty this week, playing alongside China's Zhang Ze in doubles action was taking on Gael Monfils ofFrancein singles play here on Thursday October 8.

A place in the quarter-finals awaiting the winner however, Federer would see his run come to an early end.

Federer would have the crowd behind him as he battled Gael Monfils.

But the Frenchman would start strong and shock the Swiss master and grab the first set 6-4.

Federer would be more competitive in the second set and despite losing this point to Monfils he would win the frame in a tie break.

Outstanding get by Monfils but this one was off to a third.

There though, the former world number one had no answer for the Monfils serve, as the Frenchman served up 14 aces.

And he would end up taking the third set 6-3, sending Federer out in round three.
