Yantai Economic and Technological Development Zone

Leading industry
The entity economy has grown stronger since Yantai Yadong Standardized Parts Co, the first company, settled in March 1985. The zone's industry-driven development strategy helped cultivate a group of leading businesses, such as Dongyue Auto and Langchao LG Digital Mobile Communications Co. The 3115 strategy has been implemented in recent years to cultivate three enterprises, each worth more than 100 billion yuan; 10 enterprises, each worth more than 10 billion yuan; 10 listed companies; and 50 scientific companies, each with 1 billion yuan in output value. There are now more than 23,000 registered companies, including more than 3,100 industrial companies and more than 1,400 foreign-invested companies. The zone has developed an industrial development model, with machinery manufacturing and electronic information as leading industries and auto, mobile phone, computer, ship and equipment manufacturing as major business. The zone has become an important production facility for autos, auto parts, engineering machinery, computers, mobile communication equipment, ships and ship parts, and spandex filaments.
Independent innovation
The Yantai development zone has accelerated scientific and technological innovation in recent years. At present, a total of 240 enterprises in the zone have established research and development institutes. In addition, 49 science and technology innovation platforms at or above provincial level have been built. The zone is home to a modern auto R&D center that involved $290 million in investment, Foxconn’s R&D center with $90 million in investment, and five Fortune 500 R&D institutes. High and new tech industry output value has accounted for 62.4 percent of the total. A total of 21 Thousand Talents Program personnel and 18 Taishan Scholar Program personnel have been introduced to the zone. There are more than 50 innovation teams led by academicians and PhD holders. The zone’s two projects won gold medals at the 10th national patent awards. In particular, the zone’s antineoplastic drug Endostar was a top prize winners.
Urban construction
The zone has insisted on boosting integration of city planning and construction with urban management and service development, and strives to realize high-level planning and boost urban development. It gives priority to production service development, especially modern logistics. It focuses on making breakthroughs in software development, outsourcing and financial services, and rapidly upgrading development of tourism, upscale hotels and large commercial complexes. The zone has made the list of top 30 competitive tourism districts.
Social undertakings
Yantai development zone has given a lot of input to people's livelihood. It put in 3.07 billion yuan for public welfare in 2013, accounting for more than a half of its fiscal revenue. Urban resident average income stands at 41,400 yuan. Farmer average income stands at 19,000 yuan, both ranking first in the city for many years. The zone has carried out a public service project every year and spent more than 2 billion yuan on public medical, education, welfare and culture facilities. Construction of 2.3-million-square-meter communities for relocated residents has kicked off since 2011, and 550,000 square meters have been constructed. Relevant fiscal investment reached more than 9 billion yuan. The zone has brought all rural residents into the urban and rural resident healthcare system, and its minimum living guarantee standards for rural and urban areas are on top across the city.
