The estuary in the Yellow River Delta State Nature Reserve, China’s largest wetland, in East China’s Shandong Province, covers an area of about 153,000 hectares (1530 square kilometers) wetland.
The 5464-kilometer long river, originates from The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, charges into Bohai Sea after flowing through Qinghai Province, Sichuan Province, Henan Province and Shandong Province, all together nine provinces and areas.
The Yellow River Delta State Nature Reserve was built in 1987 to protect precious birds and balance the ecological environment. By now, the nature reserve has evolved into one of the best and complete ecological systems of estuary wetland in the warm belt on the earth.
The Yellow River Delta is hitherto the only ever-growing land in China. At present, the delta covers a total area of 5,040 square kilometers, of which the wetland resulted from the alluvial of the Yellow River is about 1410 square kilometers.
