After a 16-day trek, a Chang'an freight train loaded with goods from Northwest China's Shaanxi province arrived in Hamburg, Germany on June 5.

A ceremony was held in celebration of the train's arrival.

Since it began operation in September 2016, the Xi'an-Hamburg trains have significantly reduced the time and cost of shipping goods between the two cities. Six trains a week currently shuttle between the inland Chinese city of Xi'an and the major German port city and foreign trade center of Hamburg.

Last September, Xi'an International Land Port Investment & Development Co signed contracts with the German rail company Deutsche Bahn, agreeing to collaborate on the construction of high-quality freight routes designed to deepen exchange in trade and logistics.

The China-Europe freight trains have worked as a golden bridge to connect Shaanxi and the hinterlands of Europe, according to Han Yong, chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Han hopes that the Chang'an trains will increase trade between Shaanxi province and countries in Europe and help build the area into an international logistics hub along the Silk Road.

The Xi'an ITL Park was encouraged to enhance customs clearance efficiency and optimize its business environment for innovation.
