Craftworks imported from Japan arrived at Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, on March 9, with which the China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone will hold its first exhibition and auction event of cultural products.

The 70 sets of craftworks were porcelain Kutaniyaki and Wajima lacquerware produced at Ishikawa-ken – home of Japanese craftworks. The two kinds of artistic styles were introduced to Japan in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), and by integrating local culture it has become today's form.

The importation was jointly conducted by the Xi'an International Trade and Logistics Park (ITL), part of the zone, Shaanxi Culture Industry Investment Group and the promotion association for cultural exchange between China and Japan in Ishikawa-ken.

To enrich the cultural life, the craftworks will be exhibited for a month at Midwest Inland Port Financial Town before the auction to be held in mid-April by the Shaanxi Culture Industry Investment Group. Part of the earnings will be donated to help needy students.

During the event, the inheritor of Kutaniyaki from Japan will visit Huangpu town in Tongchuan city to learn about the Yaozhou Kiln and communicate with local pottery masters. Japanese experts of lacquerware will also tour Yangxian county, major producing area of raw lacquer, to investigate its abundant lacquer trees.

Ai Hao, an official from the ITL Park, explained that the exhibition and auction were carried out in customs clearance model by which the craftworks were directly transported to the Xi'an Comprehensive Bonded Zone through sea-railway transportation and the enterprise was required to pay fewer customs duties, helping improve efficiency and save time and cost.

The head of Shaanxi Culture Industry Investment Group said that the event was an attempt to promote cultural exchanges and cultural industries along the Belt and Road by making good use of resources in the free trade zone, the ITL Park and the bonded zone. The group also strove to establish experience centers of Xi'an culture in foreign countries and to build a "Silk Road international cultural trading site".

The China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone was designed to promote the economic cooperation and cultural exchange between the inland and countries along the Belt and Road. Therefore, the ITL Park will further encourage enterprises to promote cultural exchanges with countries along the Belt and Road by importing and exporting cultural products and building itself into a trade and exchange platform.
