Shaanxi's GDP exceeded 2.18 trillion yuan ($343.98 billion) in 2017, with a year-on-year increase of eight percent, according to the government work report released at the first session of the 13th Shaanxi Provincial People's Congress held in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province on Jan 25.

The past year has witnessed a steady growth in economic and social sectors and successful accomplishment of tasks put forward during last year's session, according to Liu Guozhong, acting governor of Shaanxi province.

Local fiscal revenues surpassed 200.6 billion yuan, up by 11.9 percent year on year.

Despite the achievements, Shaanxi is still confronted with challenges, including lack of innovation among enterprises, stubborn residual poverty and uphill struggle in ecological environment protection.

"We should attach great importance to improving people's livelihood, bearing in mind what people need", Liu noted.

Officials should adopt a very down-to-earth attitude, do practical work but at the same time set an ambitious goal, according to Liu.

The report also mentioned a goal for 2018 to maintain the growth of GDP by eight percent, keeping the registered urban unemployment rate within four percent.
