SATEC Forum on Innovation and Intelligent Manufacturing

The Forum on Innovation and Intelligent Manufacturing of the 11th Sino-American Technology and Engineering Conference was held in Beijing on May 20.

Experts from China and the US discussed their ideas and experiences in innovation and intelligent manufacturing, and the future development of this industry.

Zhou Ji, head of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, said in his speech that the theme of the forum is closely related to the development trend of international engineering technology. A new round of industrial reform is in process—reform based on the Internet, and combining breakthroughs in new energy, new material, and biological technology. The reform will have a huge impact on human society in the future.

Zhang Jianguo, administrator of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, said that this forum is a highlight of this year’s SATEC. It is an important platform of cooperation between Chinese and foreign experts, and is well regarded globally. He hoped that the forum will attract more foreign experts to China and establish a long-term system of cooperation with them.

Ren Hongbin, president of China National Machinery Industry Corporation, said that the corporation is actively developing intelligent manufacturing and aims to become the forerunner of the machinery manufacturing industry in China.

Keith Roe, president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), said that this forum is an important event for engineers, educators and leaders who look for cooperation and participation. ASME and China have been cooperating since the 1970s, and will continue to do so. China is facing a turning point in manufacturing industry upgrading and reform, and, with effort, will achieve its goals soon.

Other experts from China and America also gave inspiring speeches and reports on innovation and intelligent manufacturing.
