SAFEA head meets with new German ambassador

Zhang Jianguo, the director of the State Foreign Expert Affairs Administration (SAFEA), met with Michael Clauss, Germany’s ambassador to China, on Oct 16, in Beijing. Joining the ambassador for the affair were Germany’s minister for China, counselor for economic and industrial affairs, first secretary for political affairs, and first secretary for social and labor affairs.

Zhang explained SAFEA’s responsibilities to the visitors and spoke about relations between the two countries. He also noted that Germany has always been the best in sending experts to China, organizing overseas training, and in winning the “Friendship Award” and he thanked the embassy for its support, mentioning especially the cooperation between SAFEA and German departments, including an air-pollution control and waste processing project with the city of Cologne. He concluded by expressing the hope that Clauss can further support similar projects, and promote technical and personnel exchanges between China and Germany.

Clauss also expressed his appreciation for being invited to SAFEA noting that this is his first visit after presenting his credentials to Xi Jinping, China’s president, on Oct 11. He said that he sees personnel exchanges between the two countries as important and that he will promote friendly cooperation and mutual trust, and that it is his responsibility as an ambassador.

Other participants included Liu Yanguo, SAFEA’s deputy director, officials from SAFEA’s Educational and Cultural Experts Department, Policies and Regulations Department, and the SAFEA Information Research Center of International Professionals.
