Four cities in Shandong given "civilized city" honor

Four cities in east China's Shandong province were given the honor of being named National Civilized Cities at a conference on Dec 21. The cities of Qingdao, Yantai, Linyi and Zibo were given the high honor, indicating the level of a city's overall economic strength and social civilization. The results were released at the national spiritual civilization building conference.

Qingdao, a coastal city in the province, topped the list of sub-provincial cities in the country with the highest total score in the assessment made by the CPC's Central Civilization Office. Linyi ranked first among prefecture-level cities.

Another four cities – Jinan, Dongying, Rizhao, and Laiwu – appeared on the list of candidates trying to earn the honor of being names a National Civilized City.

A total of 78 units in Shandong, including Sinotruk Group, the Rizhao Port Group and Jinan Steel Group, were awarded the title of National Civilized Unit. Forty-five villages and towns also won the crown, including Jiangjia village in Zhaoyuan, which was named the "No 1 Gold Village in China" for its rich gold deposits.
