After extending his welcome, Sharif spoke highly of POWERCHINA's efforts in the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its contribution to local social and economic development.

The CPEC is an intuitive embodiment of the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries, and Pakistan will spare no effort to work with the Chinese government to support the CPEC and the Belt and Road Initiative, the Prime Minister said at the meeting. He looked forward to more investment and cooperation on power transmission, water conservation and hydropower projects with Chinese enterprises such as POWERCHINA.

Thanks to the Prime Minister's personal concern and the Pakistani government's strong support, the company's projects involving construction of the economic corridor have been progressing, Yan said.

Among them is the Port Qasim coal-fired power plant which adopted POWERCHINA's concepts on design, construction, operation as well as investment & financing, and has finished some key construction projects in advance, and the first power unit is expected to generate electricity by year end, Yan added.

While participating in CPEC, POWERCHINA is boosting local employment and striving to make greater contributions to the local economy by offering more job opportunities, and training on technology and management.

Also attending were Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistani Minister of Defence and Minister of Water and Power, as well as the Prime Minister's chief secretary, and executives from POWERCHINA's regional headquarters in Europe and Asia and POWERCHINA Resources Limited.
