Nigerien president attends heavy oil power station completion ceremony

Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou attended the completion ceremony of the 80MW Guhu Bangda Heavy Oil Power Station built by POWERCHINA in Niamey, the capital of Niger, on April 2.

The Prime Minister of Niger, Brigi Rafini, attended the ceremony along with other Niger government officials and ambassadors, representatives from the Islamic Development Bank, representatives from POWERCHINA.

Niger's energy minister Amina Moumouni thanked the developer –POWERCHINA for the successful completion of the project, which drew the personal attention of the president and will provide power supply to the capital.

After the ceremony, Issoufou attended the launching ceremony for the No 1 unit in the power station. He appreciated the significance of the project to local economic growth and social stability, and spoke highly of POWERCHINA.

As the largest power station in Niger, the Guhu Bangda Heavy Oil Power Station consists of four sets of 20MW heavy oil/diesel internal combustion engines. It was funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Nigerien government. POWERCHINA has earned a reputation for honoring agreements in Niger and the country has helped the company achieve overseas projects.
