Reverse-role wedding photos appeal to social media

2016-05-16

Jilin province in the Northeast has seen a barrage of mock wedding photos of graduating seniors taken by students and posted on social media, showing the happy boy in a wedding dress and holding a bunch of flowers, surrounded by a couple of dozen female students dressed as grooms.

The reverse-role photo activity started with the class of 2012, at Yanbian University, in the Yanbian Korean prefecture, by some education majors graduating this July to reflect a simple fact that there was a serious imbalance in the ratio of men to women -- just one male for the entire class – and, according to Yu Qiang, the master planner, "The idea’s pretty straightforward and helps to point to the only boy in our class and our gratitude for having him in the class."

Yu was referring to Sui Donghu, or "Tiger Brother", since he’s two or three years older than his classmates and, according to one of those classmates, Yang Zhe, “He also has a warm heart and a caring sense and will tote around a pile of textbooks for us at the beginning of the semester, and they’re very heavy I have to admit. And he sends us flowers and birthday cakes on our birthdays, so sweet of him."

Nonetheless, taking the group wedding photo wasn’t all that easy for Tiger Brother, who was understandably hesitant about donning a strapless wedding gown recalls Yu, the planner, because, "He might have thought it would be embarrassing out in public, but since it would be an unforgettable souvenir, he agreed.”

Another student added, "We're the school’s first primary education majors and we're a loving team and have done a lot of things together so, this special graduation photo will be part of our good campus memories."
