Jilin Culture Week opens across the Pacific

The city of Jilin, following the success of it Culture Week in Canada, opened its Across the Pacific • Jilin Culture Week at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, in the city of Los Angeles, California.

On hand for the opening ceremony, on Sept 8, was Liu Jian, Chinese consul general in Los Angeles, Lin Jun, head of the Jilin delegation, Curt Hagman and Roger Hernández, California congressmen James Su, board chairman of EDI Media, and a Los Angeles county alderman.

In addressing the gathering, Liu said that Jilin delegation was bringing a good Chinese presentation for the American people, especially at the time of the traditional Mid-autumn Festival, to promote Sino-US exchanges and increase understanding between the Americans and people of Jilin and China.

The American guests welcomed the Jilin delegation and expressed their gratitude for the theatrical performances at the ceremony which more than 1,300 people, including political representatives, the media, and cultural affairs people in LA watched.

This activity, hosted by the Jilin government, China International Culture Association, and Los Angeles county government, was also a good way to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the US and an important part of high-level consultations on Sino-US cultural and educational exchanges.

In addition to LA, other activities will take place in the cities of San Marino, Arcadia, Contra Costa, San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Alhambra and Pasadena, with a symphony orchestra, Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, Jilin fork music performances, Beauty of Changbai Mountain Cultural Heritage Exhibition, Beautiful Changbai photographic shows, and a Jilin book fair.

This "Jilin Culture Week" is a provincial concept, since 2011, for exchanges with foreign countries and has taken place in Moscow, Seoul and Ulan Bator and plays a major role in representing Jilin, promoting cultural exchanges, and increasing mutual understanding and friendships.
