A cosmetics company in Zhangjiagang, East China’s Jiangsu province, has recently started producing masks with the help of the local market regulation department, officials said.

In order to help relieve the nationwide shortage in face masks, Liang Jingrong, the company’s owner, decided to introduce a mask production line to his GMP (good manufacturing practice) standard workshop in early February.

He began preparing the equipment on Feb 12, but had no knowledge of the proper production technology or standards.

“I’d like to thank the officials from the market regulation department for their timely help,” said Liang.

The department inspected the company’s workshop and instructed the company on how to examine raw materials, proper production management techniques, and testing products. The company has also been in contact with the quality inspection department.

The company currently produces 80,000 masks per day, and Liang said he will spend two million yuan ($284,800) to introduce two more production lines soon.

The company was founded in 1998 and sells more than 100 types of products, including toiletries, makeup, and perfume.
