Zhangjiagang, a port city in eastern Jiangsu province, is in the middle of a massive change to its transportation network, following facilities that will come into operation over the next few years.

A key high-speed railway hub station in the city is expected to go into operation in June 2020, handling roughly 10 million passengers each year.

After the Shanghai – Nantong railway and Nantong – Suzhou – Jiaxing – Ningbo railway are open to traffic, traveling from Zhangjiagang to surrounding cities will take less than half an hour, making it part of Shanghai's half-hour commuting circle.

In June of this year, Zhangjiagang started constructing ring roads, which will be completed in 2022 and enable local residents to commute throughout the city within half an hour.

The city houses 57 shipping routes totaling 424.6 kilometers and last year Zhangjiagang finished construction of an inland waterway network.

In 2018 the port city was given the green light to build a general airport, which will be used for air travel, emergency rescue and flight training.
