Zhangjiagang, East China's Jiangsu province, completed its first 5G video call on May 17, bringing the county one step closer to achieving commercial use of the 5G network.

The phone call was made by Hu Jun, deputy mayor of Zhangjiagang, at Zhangjiagang branch of China Telecom. The branch has opened its first 5G trial commercial network which covers seven areas in Zhangjiagang including the China Telecom building, the civic center and the high-tech area.

5G technology will play a more important role in intelligent driving, industry control, city construction and home improvements. 5G networks feature ultrahigh transmission rates, enhanced capacity and reduced latency compared with 4G.

Zhangjiagang will further accelerate 5G construction, stimulate the coverage in the city and promote digital technology industries.
