A new high-speed railway connecting cities in the south of Jiangsu province that is set to start construction in September will also pass through Zhangjiagang, according to the Shanghai Railway Bureau.

The South Jiangsu Railway, with a length of 278.33 kilometers, will connect the Jiangsu provincial capital, Nanjing, with Taicang, a county-level city in Suzhou, passing through other cities including Changzhou, Jiangyin, and Zhangjiagang on the way.

The new line, which will have a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour, is set to be completed in 2020. After completion, it is hoped that the line will not only ease traffic congestion in Zhangjiagang, but will also help to attract investment and boost commercial development and tourism for all the cities along the line.
