The city of Zhangjiagang in East China's Jiangsu province is going to build two airports, local authorities have announced.

One of the airports will be located on Shuangshan Island, a 16-square-kilometer island in the northwest of the city with beautiful natural scenery.

The airport will cover 12 hectares and will be specially designed for helicopters. The site will be used as a base to launch helicopter tours across the island and surrounding area, which the local government intends to develop into a scenic area and tourist attraction.

The other airport will be constructed in the city's Nanfeng town and will be designed to accommodate fixed-wing aircraft.

The facility will be used for short-distance flight services ranging from 500 to 800 kilometers, according to Wen Qingze, deputy director of the city's transportation bureau.

Both the two airports are expected to start construction before 2020.
