A picture of a traffic policeman holding an umbrella for a drunken man on roadside went viral on Chinese social media on Sept 7.

Zhang Ye, a traffic policeman in Zhangjiagang, a county-level city in East China’s Jiangsu province was on duty on the morning of September 6.

Upon receiving an emergency call, Zhang rushed to the scene and found the drunken man lying down on a side of Huachang Road motionlessly. Zhang immediately dialed medical emergency hotline.

Prior to the arrival of medics, heavy rains begun to pour down. In order to avoid the drunken man from getting wet, Zhang Ye squatted and held up an umbrella for him until the ambulance arrived.

The scene was captured by a driver passing by and uploaded online. Zhang Ye's behavior of kindness gained him wide recognition from many netizens.

It was also reported that the drunken man regained consciousness after being rescued on time.
