Editor's note:

A group of famed photographers from Beijing spent two days in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province from Sept 23 to 24, capturing the beauty of this port city lying on the south bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

Ten of them set off individually to various parts of the city in search of the perfect light and shadow to capture the city’s picturesque landscape and rapid development.

Vintage Zhangjiagang

Zhangjiagang was originally a farming town situated on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Fish farms were popular plus a small fishery port. Boasting the subtlety of the south and generosity of the north, Zhangjiagang has maintained its unique charm and appearance over the years.

A modern industrial port city

With an expansive metropolis, Zhangjiagang has undergone a significant change in its environment and considerable economic growth. After it was selected as a city permitted to open to foreign trade in 1993, the city started its vast economic development and finally drastic change make it a modern industrial city with near 20% annual economic growth.
