As thunderstorms swept the cities of Jiangsu province on June 26 and 27, government authorities in Zhangjiagang city have spared no efforts to prevent flooding.

Water conservancy authorities in all of the city's towns launched a 24-hour flood monitoring taskforce and ordered all drainage pump stations to work to drain off rain water.

A power company installed automatic water-level monitoring systems in lower-lying residential areas. Should the water level reach a certain height, the system will discharge the water automatically.

The maritime department also issued a rainstorm warning to ships in the Zhangjiagang area and closely monitored dangerous goods vessels and passenger ferries to ensure the overall security of the area.

A large number of traffic policemen and cleaners were organized to direct the traffic and drain off water respectively.
