A seminar on preserving and transmitting Zhangjiagang's Leigou fabric weaving and dyeing techniques was held in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, on Dec 26, with municipal and provincial intangible cultural heritage experts in attendance to share their insights and give suggestions on the protection and development of Leigou fabric.

Leigou fabric is a kind of homespun textile that originated in the Leigou area, which is today's Jingang town in Zhangjiagang. It is a traditional craft with a history of more than 500 years. It features a rigorous process including cotton selection, spinning, weaving and dyeing. Its natural and durable features have received a warm welcome from the public.

In 2007, Leigou fabric entered the first list of Zhangjiagang intangible cultural heritages. Zhangjiagang Jinling Textile Co was designated as an inheriting unit in 2009 to protect Leigou fabric. Lv Da'an, leader of the Zhangjiagang intangible cultural heritage expert team, noted that promoting the fabric's features and advantages and satisfying customers' needs in color and variety will become a focus of Leigou's future development.
