Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province will build a one-stop production base for jack-up platform legs, the first of its kind in the country.

The jack-up platform is one of the most widely-used drilling platforms in the world. The legs, as a key part of the platform, are composed of arc plates, gear racks and triangle trusses, which are produced by separate companies.

The components of the leg, if produced in three different areas, will cost more than 10 million yuan ($1.63 million) in logistics. The one-stop production base, however, will integrate the production of leg components to save logistics cost and reduce management risks.

The base is co-sponsored by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co and Zhangjiagang Runtong Marine Engineering Technology Co, which will combine their resources and technologies to ensure quality products and services.

The jack-up platform production industry in China has occupied 54 percent of the world's total. Zhangjiagang aims to build the base as a world-class marine equipment production area.
