An event aimed at “taking calligraphy into 10,000 homes” and organized by the China Calligraphers Association and Kaiming Arts College was held in Yonglian village, Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province on September 28.
Fifteen famous calligraphers created more than 80 calligraphy and carving works at the event to show their appreciation of the achievements made by Yonglian village in new countryside construction.
The village has attached great importance to culture while making efforts in economic development.
In July, Yonglian village founded the first village-level federation of literary and art circles to provide a chance for amateurs to get together to communicate, create works and explore more village culture resources. The federation enhances the cultural strength of the village.
Wu Huifang, an official from Yonglian village, said the village has a strong art atmosphere as there are a number of literature, painting and calligraphy amateurs among the villagers. The event helped improve painting and writing skills among villagers, and the works will become important examples of the village’s development.
