“Water is penetrating the eaves of my house. I need someone to help me repair it,” said Ji Yulan, a resident living in a temporary dwelling in Nonglian village at Zhangjiagang of Jiangsu province, on August 26.

Zhou Chao, who was on duty at the life service office of Nonglian village of Donglai town in the Zhangjiagang Economic & Technological Development Zone, came to Ji’s house as soon as possible.

After a general check, Zhou Chao informed the related department of the village to set up the exact time for repair.

“I have contacted the village, and they will help you in one or two days,” Zhou told Ji.

Ji was glad. “It’s convenient to have the office, which helps us avoid a lot of trouble in daily life.”

It was the third time that Zhou was on duty at the office. He went to three houses in 10 minutes to help them solve problems.

“It’s not busy. Once I was busy working until 11 pm to help residents solve problems and explain policies to them.”

Zhou Chao said he will visit residents one by one, talking with them about their needs when he is not busy.

The life service office opened in Nonglian village on May 1 this year. Every day there is an official in the office from 3pm to 7am the next day to communicate with and help residents. On weekends, medical workers provide service.

More than 300 families live in temporary dwellings in the village, most of them are elderly without the company of children. Taking care of them is the main purpose of the office.

Over 300 problems have been solved since the office was founded.
