Many industrial enterprises have gathered in Jiangsu Yangtze International Metallurgical Industrial Park in Jinfeng town, Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province. The new firms have not affected the area’s environment.
Officials at the industrial park stress the importance of “profiting through industry and preserving the environment simultaneously”. They have made significant efforts toward environmental protection.
The government published a three-year plan to enhance air quality and has spent 2 billion yuan ($326.6 million) on air and river preservation. A total of 1 billion yuan was used to reduce discharge of major pollutants in several enterprises by 40 percent. Another 600 million yuan was invested to build an eco-corridor along the river. A total of 170 million yuan was used to create green land with an area of 466,000 square meters.
Vice-mayor of Jinfeng town, Liu Ping, said environmental protection is the most important factor to take into consideration when a new project applies to the industrial park. Related departments will stop the project if officials find it will harm the environment.
