Zhangjiagang has started nine resettlement housing projects for farmers lately.

The nine communities for relocated farmers covers an area of 1.37 million square meters, including Yangshe town, the site of the Zhangjiagang Economic & Technological Development Zone, Jiangsu Yangtze International Metallurgical Industrial Park area in Jinfeng town, Jingang town, Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone, and two other towns.

It is the fifth time Zhangjiagang city has initiated large-scale resettlement housing programs since May 2010, when the integrated urban-rural development campaign was started.

There are more than 7 million square meters of resettlement housing projects under construction in Zhangjiagang, and another 6.36 million square meters have been finished.

Both the total area and quality of resettlement housing projects should be enhanced so as to build functional, livable and garden-like communities that meet the public’s demand, said Xu Meijian, chief of the Zhangjiagang city Party committee, at a foundation-laying ceremony for a community project in Yangshe town.

Yao Linrong, the city mayor, also urged the acceleration of construction schedules and facilitation of supplementary facilities and services so that the projects can be completed and put into use on time for residents.
