Digital projects aim to protect heritage

Wuxi National High-tech District has launched a special action plan to better inherit and protect intangible cultural heritage, and to create a cultural brand with local characteristics.

According to the action plan, the district will further improve the digital project of exhibition and heritage protection of Hongshan Relic Museum, constantly improve the quality of museum exhibition and explore the development of creative derivatives of museums. It will also standardize the operation style of the museum and improve the museum's education function, connecting the museum and its facilities with more schools.

The protection of Taibo Canal, Taibo Tomb, Taibo Temple and Hongshan Tombs is also listed in the plan. The district will build Hongshan National Archaeological Park in a cultural tourism destination serving as a countryside park and archaeological base.

It will also activate the historical and cultural communities, and integrate historical and cultural elements in the construction of a beautiful countryside, thereby integrating culture and tourism.

Local government officials will promote the construction of an intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance system, including strengthening the protection and inheritance of intangible heritage, building the Erhu Cultural Industrial Park in Meicun Village, and continuing to carry out the Taibo Temple Fair.

The district will improve policy support for representative successors of intangible cultural heritage, promoting the productive protection of intangible cultural heritage projects, and carry out exhibitions, seminars, lectures, training and other activities.

The district said it will strengthen the brand of the Wu Culture Festival, deeply exploring the contemporary value of the Wu spirit, so as to make the brand effect of Wu culture increasingly apparent.

Local government said it will strengthen the inheritance and innovation of Wuxi Opera, a kind of traditional folk art. It has established special funds to carry out related folk art cultural activities and the protection of intangible cultural heritage of folk art. It also set up designated area for the performance and exchange of Wuxi Opera art teams, so as to boost the creation of more excellent works.

WND said it will promote the construction of the Grand Canal (Wuxi section) Cultural Belt, implementing the canal heritage protection project and deeply exploring the rich connotation and spiritual value of the canal culture.

In addition to promoting the construction of major projects, WND will also actively participate in the Grand Canal International Culture and Art Festival, the Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo, promote the research into the context of the Grand Canal and start editing the Taihu Lake Cultural Seriesthe Bodu River Album. It will work with the Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Development Fund and support a number of Grand Canal cultural protection, inheritance and utilization projects.

Promoting the cultural influence in foreign countries is listed as a key task. With its profound cultural resources and regional characteristics, WND will intensify the integration of various resources, and gradually form cultural exchange projects with comparative advantages.

Giving full play to the advantages of the erhu production industry in Meicun Town, WND will introduce famous erhu masters, train erhu and folk music performance teams, hold a number of erhu competitions and erhu concerts, and create excellent erhu works, promoting erhu culture, the district said.

The district will also make full use of the English website of Xinwu district, the multilingual investment website of WND and the Facebook site of WND to expand the influence of the Xinwu district's culture.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
