Favorable transportation

Roads

There is a great road network, including the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway, Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, Heilongjiang-Hainan Expressway, Highway 312 from Shanghai to Xinjiang, and Highway 104.

Railways

The Beijing-Shanghai Railway runs through the area and is connected to the nationwide highway system. The Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway has just gone into operation, cutting the time from Shanghai to Wuxi to 23 minutes and the Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Express Railway stops in Wuxi’s New District. The Xinyi-Changxing Railway also runs through the city, connecting the south and north sides of the Yangtze River.

Urban railways

There is a subway branch planned for the district to shorten the time to the urban area to just 10 minutes, and a commercial street in front of the station to give people better services,

Ports

There are top international ports nearby, with the Port of Shanghai available for international trade, the Port of Zhangjiagang, and Jiangyin Port, reached directly via Wuxi-Jiangyin Expressway. The city is only 40 kilometers from Jingang, Jinfeng, Leyu and Fenghuang, reachable directly via expressway.

Aviation

The district contains the Wuxi Airport, with 45 flights to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Kunming, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taipei and international flights to Osaka, Japan and Bangkok, Thailand, and plans to expand it as an international airport.

 

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
