Wuxi design expo displays latest tech trends

The 13th China (Wuxi) International Design Expo themed "Better Design, Better Future" ushered in the latest technological trends to Wuxi, Jiangsu province, during the event held from Nov 11 to 13.

In a time of mass information networks, industrial design in China has generally been applied to a wide array of living and production. The three-day exposition displayed works covering home furnishings, digital devices, building materials and scientific research, offering innovative insights into the fascinating art of design.

In the four pavilions with areas of more than 30,000 square meters, business giants including household appliances producer Haier, mobile Internet company Xiaomi, and electric vehicle industry leader Sunra, displayed their cutting-edge innovative products. Traditional arts like ceramics and embroidery craftworks also helped to capture the curiosity of craft lovers.

A diverse array of home automation products mainly caught the attention of household visitors. Li Jin, a Wuxi native who had been engaged in the World Internet of Things Exposition (WIOT) several days ago, was excited about the impact that the IoT is having on changing the way people live.

"Internet of things intersects objects from various facets of life with sensor technology. From robotic cleaning to laundry and cooking, my family is now enjoying a brand new smart home experience," he said.

In terms of research, the expo also highlighted some scientific breakthroughs in the booth of the Wuxi National Industrial Design Park. Graphene, a kind of new material with a promising market value, caught the attention of Wuxi Party Secretary Li Xiaomin, who encouraged the strengthening of research and development to broaden the applications of new materials, with the aim of upgrading the city's manufacturing industry.

Apart from the exposition, various other events were held including a design forum, an entrepreneurship meeting, a signing ceremony for innovative projects, a design competition and a youth innovation contest. The whole series is expected to promote the application of design achievements to various aspects of society, according to the exposition organizer.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
