Wuxi in Jiangsu province recorded fast growth in the number of tourists to the city during the first quarter of 2015 thanks to convenient transportation and newly-introduced tourism products.

Wuxi's attractive local parks witnessed 19.55 million visits in the first quarter, generating total tourism income of 24.7 billion yuan, a 10 percent increase year-on-year, according to the statistics released by the city tourism bureau on April 22.

Furthermore, Wuxi ranked first among all cities in the province in the first quarter in a tourist satisfaction survey conducted by the provincial tourism bureau.

Visiting parks by locals during holidays and weekends is an increasingly popular trend in the city. The opening of metro Line 2 made it possible for more people to visit the Plum Garden, particularly during the Spring Festival.

Other popular places such as the Xihui Park and the Turtle Head Peninsula (Yuantouzhu) have also attracted many tourists through various flower shows organized.

Free public scenic spots such as Changguangxi Wetland Park and Jingui Park have also received many local residents and self-drive tourists. Officials pointed to the promotions launched on such social media platforms as WeChat and Weibo as a main factor behind the increasing popularity of these free parks.

In order to offer better services, the city will build new public toilet venues and parking lots at some scenic spots and expand the free Wi-Fi coverage at various tourist destinations.
