Koshihikari rice of Yafu Agricultural Science and Technology Co in Wuxi New District, Jiangsu province, honored as the “best rice in the world,” hit the market on Oct 10.

With a delicate smell and natural color, 20 percent of the total harvested rice has been ordered.

Because Koshihikari’s output value per mu is only half of common rice and the cultivation process requires a long time, the Koshihikari price has reached 50 yuan ($8.10) per kilogram, according to Fang Yan, vice-president of the company. However, the rice is popular with high-end customers due to its high quality and nice taste.

Yafu has not only set up exclusive shops in some supermarkets, including Yaohan and Suning, but has also provided rice to local enterprises according to their requirements.

After Koshihikari, other kinds of rice will hit the market in October.

Yafu has purchased safflower seeds and will sow them at the end of this month.

The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
