Conference of talents and innovation opens in Wuxi

The 2019 Wuxi Conference of Talents and Innovation opened on May 6. The two-day conference consists of various events, including a summit and an expo.

Leaders from provincial and municipal governments, including Wuxi Party Secretary Li Xiaomin and Wu Chen, a deputy to the National People's Congress, attended the opening ceremony.

Wuxi in recent years has been attaching great importance to luring talents who have injected strong impetus into the city's high-quality development. Wuxi is looking forward to strengthening communication and cooperation with outstanding individuals from home and abroad, according to Li Xiaomin.

Wuxi is accelerating the construction of a modern industrial system with strategic emerging industries as the guide, advanced manufacturing as the main body, and modern service industries as the support, in a bid to attract and cultivate talents, Li added.

A total of nine innovation platforms were launched during the opening ceremony, including the Wuxi research institute for new energy vehicles of Tongji University and the Wuxi innovation center for advanced composites.

What's more, a summit was held after the opening ceremony, convening more than 600 high-level talents from all over the world, including a Nobel Prize winner and 20 academicians from global research institutes.

Mario J. Molina, Nobel laureate in chemistry and professor of the University of California, San Diego, Du Jiangfeng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lyu Jia, artistic director for music of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, along with three other academicians, delivered keynote speeches at the summit.

According to an official announcement nearly 1,500 projects of high-level talents at home and abroad and 450 new technical achievements of key universities and research and development institutes will be released to the public during the conference.
