The expressway in the eastern section of West Jianghai Road opened to traffic on Sept 28.
As a major infrastructure project for Wuxi-Jiangyin-Yixing integration, the transformation of West Jianghai road into an expressway was launched by the city's Public Project Construction Center at the end of 2016.
With a total length of 8.8 km without traffic lights, the project connects the Xinkai River of Luoshe town in the west and Fengxiang interchange in the east.
The reconstructed West Jianghai Road includes the main expressway and the ground road. The general section of the expressway has a 6.7 kilometer viaduct with six lanes in two ways and a designed speed of 80 km/h. The ground road also opened to traffic on the same date.
There are four interchanges across the 8.8-km-long road, namely, from west to east, the S342-West Wuxi combined interchange, Qianwei Road interchange, Xinhuangxiang public railway interchange and Fengxiang interchange.
A western line in the planned fast road network of Wuxi, the West Jianghai Road Expressway will be a corridor linking the northwest area of the city and its downtown. "The expressway will better promote the development of surrounding parks such as Hudai Industrial Park and Wuxi West Railway Logistics Park," said a director of the expressway project.
The expressway once operational will facilitate the integrated development of Wuxi, Jiangyin and Yixing, the director added.
