Electronic ID cards applying internet of things (IoT) technology to cars have already been launched as a pilot project in Wuxi. The city became a pioneer for the application of electronic vehicle identification in 2014, attracting many companies in the field of intelligent transportation.

Vehicle information, like license numbers, can be stored on the card. About 50,000 cars are equipped with electronic ID cards in Wuxi, most of them are buses. People can check their locations in real-time through a smart phone app.

The China Transportation Information & Compass Technology Company (CTICT) is one of the earliest members of the electronic vehicle identification standards formulation group. The company focuses on the extensive use of electronic identification technologies.
