A fire broke out at a sponge factory in Wuxi New District at 2:00pm on May 21. The fire caused damage at the premises, but no casualties were reported.
The Wuxi fire department dispatched 13 fire trucks and 80 firefighters to the scene. The fire was put out after an hour. Two workers trapped in the building were rescued, the Wuxi Daily reported.
The fire spread out quickly, making it difficult for factory workers to contain it, said a director at the factory, adding that the welding sparkles may have caused the fire.
No one was injured during the fire. The total burned area reached 800 square meters. An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the fire and extend of the damage.
