January

The American sports equipment supplier Nike, Inc started the operation of its new logistics facility in Taicang, Jiangsu province on Jan 10. With an investment of $100 million, the new facility expanded the area of Nike China (Taicang) Logistics Center by 30 percent to 260,000 square meters.

February

With sizhu or traditional stringed and woodwind instruments, Taicang in Jiangsu province was named as Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art from 2018 to 2020 by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

March

The 2019 Taicang (China) Tourism Culture Festival got underway at the city's Yangtze Estuary Tourist Resort in ancient Liuhe town on March 22. Themed on "Savor fresh fishes, enjoy scenic Taicang", the festival ran through the end of May, during which 23 activities, including 13 tourist activities and six gourmet activities, were offered.

April

The China-Germany Dual Education Teachers Training Center was inaugurated at Jiangsu Taicang Secondary Vocational School. The center offers training classes towards four professional certificates, including precision machinist, technicians skilled in operating industrial robots and mechanical and electrical engineers for industry and motor vehicles.

May

The 2019 IAAF Race Walking Challenge kicked off in Taicang, Jiangsu province on May 11, marking the beginning of the qualification trials for the 20 kilometer race of the world championships. A total of 245 racers from 13 other countries and regions, such as Japan, Australia and Brazil and 130 athletes from China participated in the international event.

June

The final of the 2019 Chinese-German Youth Venture Competition wrapped up in Taicang, Jiangsu province on June 12. A total of 64 venture teams from China and Germany were shortlisted for the final contest with their projects involving high-end equipment manufacturing, new materials, biological medicines and new-generation information technology.

July

A delegation from Taicang, Jiangsu province held an investment promotion conference in Tokyo, Japan on July 19. The conference attracted more than 100 renowned Japanese enterprises and groups, including Mizuho Bank, Tamagawa Seiki, and Mitsui E&S Group. Representatives from Tamagawa Seiki and Mitsui E&S Group shared their experience of investing in Taicang.
