The second China International Import Expo (CIIE) used Taicang-made carpets in its venues, Taicang Daily reported on Nov 4.

The fire resistant carpets, made by Suzhou Lianchang Special Fiber Co, covered a floor area of 300,000 square meters.

"This is the second time that CIIE has chosen to use our carpets," said Tong Jun, general manager of Lianchang Special Fiber.

One of the main reasons, according to Tong, is that the company's fire resistant carpets have undergone improvements in terms of weight, tactility, and environmental friendliness.

Using a special fiber originally developed for automobiles, the weight of the carpets has been reduced by one fourth, while the surface has become softer, making them more comfortable to walk on.

Half of the materials used to make the carpets were reused from old carpets. The equivalent of 4 million plastic bottles worth of recycled fiber material was used.

Taicang-based Lianchang Special Fiber Co is committed to developing special fibers that can be used in a number of different areas, including public transportation, healthcare, culture, sports, military, and aviation.
