Taicang, a county-level city in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, recently established a special fund to help poor mothers in the city who have cancer, according to local media.

The fund, co-founded by the city’s Women's Federation, Charity Federation, and Woman Entrepreneur Sodality, will offer each patient a subsidy of 6,000 yuan ($867.18) every year.

In addition to the registered permanent residences in the city and certificates of low-income families, the aided women need to be patients with cervical cancer IIB or above or invasive breast cancer.

A spokesman for the Women's Federation said that since cervical cancer and breast cancer have become a more serious threat to women, the fund will help prevent families of sick women from sinking into poverty.
