Shanghai-based Fosun Tourism Group, also known as Foliday, has started the construction of a resort town in Taicang, Jiangsu province, local media reported on Jan 5.

"Taicang's increasing prominence on the international stage and its traditional watertown culture are attractive to us," said the company's president Qian Jiannong. "The city's rapid economic development and improved business climate also boost our confidence."

Its designer, a global design and architecture firm Gensler, plans to build the resort town into a one-stop international destination for travelers from around the world.

With an area of 724 mu (48.3 hectares), the resort town is expected to include a holiday village, a snow world, a water park, a European style commercial street, and many other entertainment facilities.

The snow world, water park and European style commercial street is scheduled to start construction in the first half of the year, while the building of five-star hotels commences in the second half of the year.

The main facilities in the resort town will be open to the public before 2022, according to a Foliday spokesperson.

Foliday is one of the world's leading leisure-focused integrated tourism groups, and the largest leisure tourism resorts group worldwide.
